Layering scent, the new approach to home fragrance

Layering is not a new concept.  We’ve all heard of ‘capsule wardrobe’ dressing, layering clothes up and down for the different seasons and changing the look with accessories to suit your own individual style.  When designing the Jo Hannah Home Fragrance library my approach was to work with scents which, in their own right are simply stunning, but that can work together by mixing and matching for unique results for individual homes.

You will find every one of our fragrances is sorted into a family: fruity, floral, woody & oriental or fresh.  You can also select by mood: Happy, calm, relax, uplift, or enliven.  You may want a fresh, energising scent for the entrance into your home Lemongrass & Ginger Is gorgeous as an aroma pod placed in our stunning white or black pod melter, it’s a safe way to burn fragrance throughout the day just by flicking a switch.  Your bedroom should be a place of calm, try a Lavender Spa Candle, lit a couple of hours before bed, to create a spa like space for restful sleep.  Don’t forget to blow it out before you turn the light off.

Finally, once your confidence grows try combining two scents in one room to create your own signature scent.  Play safe by combining the same family, or be daring and try something like Lemongrass & Ginger diffusing softly in an aroma lamp, dimmed to create atmosphere. Then light a Peony and Blush Suede candle for a true sensory experience, citrus, woody and floral a real mood lift and sensual way to end your day.

Top tips for scent layering

Treat your hall and landing as the backbone to your fragrance library - pick scents which are fresh and welcoming.

Think about the purpose of every room leading off the backbone of your home.  A bedroom should be calm and restful, a sitting room warm and welcoming, a study or workspace energised and uplifting.

Start with one aroma pod melter or an aroma lamp and pick three aroma Pods,  one from each scent family.  Then start to build your library with complimentary candles.  You will soon have enough choice to change your scents up and down to suit any mood or atmosphere you wish to create.
